Chimpanzee are great apes that live in the jungles and grasslands of Western and Central Africa. They keep an eye out for their main predators: Leopards!

The White-handed Gibbon (Hylobates lar) is probably the best known gibbon from visits to zoos. They live in the forests of Southeast Asia, Sumatra, Burma, Thailand and the Malay Peninsula. Gibbons swing by their long, strong arms from branch to branch and eat fruits, leaves, buds, and flowers. |
Hanuman Langurs (Semnopitheaus entellus) range widely from desert edges to jungles to mountains and eats leaves and seeds that are indigestible to other monkeys. Hanuman is the Hindu god of healing and worship and in some parts of India, the Hanuman Langur is revered. The Hanuman Langur often accompany Indian holy men.

There are two species of Orangutans in Borneo and Sumatra (Pongo pygmaeus, Pongo abelii). Orangutans spend their lives in the jungle canopy up to 100 feet high gracefully swinging by their long, strong arms from branch to branch and eating fruits, leaves, shoots, seeds and bark.

The Western Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla) and Eastern Gorilla (Gorilla beringei) are the largest of the primates and live in mountain and lowland forests. Lowland gorillas feed mainly on fruit while Mountain gorillas feed mostly on herbs, stems and roots. |
